Why do we diagnose? In fact there are few engine problems need to be diagnose using a machine. In most cases diagnose wouldn't solve anything,it is depend to our experience.I am not denying what machine can do to diagnose and rectify problems but in such cases diagnose machine won't solve anything. If we are solely driving the car sometimes we can know the exact problems by ourselves.
There are few car users tend to send cars for repair without taking a first impression to check first before sending to mechanics or workshop. These will exactly waste time and money for such repairs. We could reduce the cost for repairs if we as a user take a first impression on our car.
We will send cars for diagnose machine for certain reason as below:-
1.-Engine knocking-too noisy
2.-Engine trembles
3.-Engine sign"check engine" is on
4.-Engine idling unstable
5.-Engine wiring malfunction
Those are the few reason why we have to use machine to diagnose the problems. Those problems are exactly direct to engine wiring and system.Small wiring problems such as fuse burn or wire cuts diagnose machine cannot solve the issue. That is why only a certain case the machine will trace the precise problems.
Troubleshooting process won't be difficult if we know how to tackle the basic problems. It mostly about car components, the knowledge of identifying the basic problems and also the troubleshooting process.

Troubleshooting engine overheating
Basically there are a lot of troubleshooting process of engine overheating. Before we go further we have to know the car components that works directly to overheating. The components consist of:-
1)radiator
2)radiator fan
3)water pump
4)thermostat
5)water hose
6)water jacket
7)cylinder head gasket
These are the major components which always involved in an engine overheating.First is radiator,to ensure you will not facing such an overheating problem, radiator must contain enough coolant and absolutely clean from any leaks.Secondly radiator fan must actively working and makes no weird sound at all.Now thirdly water pump, you must make sure water pump still within the limit means it is still can be use without any pouring water from that component.(water pump located inside timing belt
casing)
Thermostat also one of contributors of overheating problems but it is very hard to know whether your thermostat is in good performing level if there is not temperature showing of engine overheating.
Water hose leaks also one of the reason for overheating problems as well as water jacket. You need to confirm of no leaking hose and container at all.
Lastly the cylinder head, this can cause overheating if no water leaking in those water components such as radiator, thermostat and so on.In other word you have to stop driving when your temperature shows engine overheating ,to protect your engine from requiring top overhaul for cylinder gasket burning.
For those all the overheating cause now we can exactly troubleshoot all the problems.
1)take out your radiator and clean it up by filling out the water and fill it back with radiator coolant.Do not forget to check all hose attach to radiator,to ensure no leaks as well as water jacket.
2)You also can check the thermostat by taking out the thermostat and replace it with a new one.(thermostat located at the end of upper hose radiator)
3)If those water components already check please stop driving if your car temperature shows overheating sign.

Troubleshooting No-Start Vehicle Problems
There is nothing more infuriating than getting into your car only to find out that it would not start. As with other vehicle problems, the causes could range from a mere nuisance to major repairs. However, every driver must know the root cause of the problem and to give it a timely solution.
Murphy’s Law describes all about such situations: whatever can go wrong will go wrong, and at the worst possible time. No start problem could happen when you are already late for work or the car is 200 degrees below zero out. Now, that makes you even more infuriated and you realize that indeed anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
Troubleshooting no start problems would be easy if drivers know its causes. There are common causes and reasons behind the problem. The first reason is the failure of fuel pump failure or the restriction of fuel filter. This is the most prevalent cause of no-start problems in recent times. This is primarily due to the negligence of vehicle owners to enforce scheduled maintenance. Said negligence could be mirrored in part by not having the fuel filter changed at right intervals. Some fuel filters cost $100.00 however in vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokees which was built in the late 90s, replacement of fuel pump could cost about $800.00! How many times do you want to spend that much?
One significant cause for premature fuel pump failure is when the driver allows the fuel level to go lower than ¼ tank for extended periods or running completely out of fuel. This will make the electric fuel pump to run dry, which eventually destroys the pump. GMs Vortec engines - 4.3L, 5.7L with the CPI fuel injection system – fail in many ways. Some of the ways include plastic tubes leak, fuel pressure regulator leak, and when poppets get plugged.

engine belting
No start problem could also be attributed to timing belt failure or timing belt tensioner failure. Basically, timing belts are engineered to last approximately 40,000-60,000 miles under normal use. If these belts break, it could result to engine damage. But for vehicles manufactured by Acura, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Nissan brands, the repairs would not be so costly. Moreover, it is recommended that the timing belt be changed at regular intervals. The tensioner should be replaced if questionable.
distributor
Another root cause of no start problems is distributor failure. When your vehicle breaks down without any warning - that could be an indication of the problem. Other symptoms include history of intermittent breakdown and intermittent failure to start from cold, which may be caused by security system failure. Mitsubishi electric distributors in the Ford Probe and Mazda vehicles have a high failure rate.
Electrical trouble is another cause of no-start problem. Ford ignition switches, manufactured in the early 90s, have been known to cause fires. Hence, every driver must check them regularly to shun future bother. One should not only focus on Volvo distributor rotor or Land Rover brake pads; he must inspect every auto part to ensure that it is in working condition.
Batteries, clamps and cables could also cause no start problems. Drivers and owners alike oftentimes neglect corroded batteries. The fact is, batteries do not last forever; do not confuse them with diamonds. Moreover, poor maintenance could result to battery failures that lead to other vehicle problems.
ECM/ PCM failure is also a no-start cause. This problem is common to GM products manufactured on mid 80s. Other causes include inaccurate fuel gauges, lack of oil, plugged exhaust systems, bad fuel injectors, and worn flywheel.

To identify the problems
After 15 years involved in automotive industry I discovered a few basic car problems
Warning:If you are not sure of doing it yourself please get an expert to do it for you.Troubleshooting car problems
Ist problem-Engine cannot start
- If this happen please check the if the battery has been properly connected and it's still in use.If it is done please check the sparks using another spark plug and connect with the plug cable touch it to the engine body while the other person crank the engine. It is to check whether the firing condition is on.If there is no sparks comes out it must have a problem in engine wiring or the plug cable itself.
- If this happen you can check the water system of the car by checking the radiator hose and water pump for leakage. It is to make sure no leaking hose and any leakage can be heal by changing the component. If you have a radiator leakage, after replacing raditor must be tighten up properly to prevent any leakage in future.
- If you have a water pump problem please ensure that after replacing the 'engine marking' is in order to prevent any engine knocking so that your car is easy to start.
3rd problem-Engine start but make a lot of noise
- It is advisable to check whether the engine has enough oil. With not enough engine oil engine knocking will be more and you can easily hear the noise.
- Air filter also has to be changed in order to keep the ratio of air and fuel is in good ratio to prevent your car easily get heat up.
- It is always happen when the engine oil gets to thick due to very long usage. This could be heal when you change the engine oil.
- You must check the gearbox in order to make sure the clutch plate still can be use.If is already expire please change the clutch plate and also the gear oil.
